In the Bowls England National Top Club competition, Chelmsford BC met Southminster BC in round one at Southminster.
This competition is played over five disciplines with the winners being the team to win most disciplines.
Chelmsford were soon 2 - 1 up with two to play. In the Pairs event Chelmsford's duo of Graham Robson and
Phil Kyffin were engaged in a ding dong battle against Southminster's John Raggett and Eddie Barker.
The home duo held their ground and finished four shots up to win 17 - 13 which made the match all level at 2 - 2. The last event to finish was the Fours match where Chelmsford's team of Les Parris, Tony Collings, Robert Walker and skip Stan Slater won the match overall 3 - 2.
Chelmsford now meet Silver End BC at the Broadway Green, Silver End on a date before 5 June.
In the National Two Fours competition Chelmsford were matched again against Southminster BC. Chelmsford clawed their way back but could never make up the deficit and lost by just five shots overall in the end.
