Essex Culture

To prove Essex has plenty of culture the county council have produced a map to show us where it all is.

Famous Essex landmarks and hertiage spots are being put on a new CULTURE MAP to try and get  change the stereotype that Essex hasn't got any history.

The County Council's putting it together to make people more aware of things like theatres, art galleries and ancient buildings in the county.

They reckon at the moment lots of people have a negative impression of the county and it's unjustified.

The map includes information on the county’s top ten cultural attractions in a range of themes, from art and museums to built heritage and gardens right through to theatre and food and drink.

County Councillor Jeremy Lucas, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Heritage, Culture and the Arts, explains “Despite a whole host of wonderful examples of heritage and culture right here in Essex, we still fall pray to the perception that Essex is bereft of this sort of attraction – and it simply isn’t true! From Colchester’s wonderful castle to our stunning coastline and mudflats, windmills, spectacular gardens and historic houses – Essex is full of fascinating and unique places of interest and I want to encourage everyone – residents and visitors – to experience more of what we have to offer and to consider Essex as an ideal place for a day out or even a short break.”

He added: “This year one of our pledges is to promote a year of culture in Essex and this map is a great way of showing people just how many interesting, beautiful and historic sites we have here. I feel proud of my own Essex roots and want to encourage people from far and wide to visit us and see for themselves what a vibrant county Essex is.”
